Chocolate Chip Cookies
I have waited just too long to bake these beauties! And I have absolutely no excuse for it! Sunday evening I put forth a question to my family - "I am in the mood to bake... is there something that you guys want in particular?" The husband and the 4.5 year old answered in unison - "Chocolate Chip Cookies!"
I did a quick search on the web and landed on this recipe from JoyofBaking for the classic Chocolate Chip Cookie which perhaps is America's most favorite cookie! I just halved her recipe which yielded about 20 cookies. If you are guilty of snacking on the cookie dough batter like I am (yes, yes, despite the raw egg) you will end up with at least one or two less cookies like I did. Also, this is not one of those quick bakes as the cookie dough requires at least an hour or two chill-time in the fridge.
- Flour - 1 Cup + 2 tbsp
- Granulated Sugar - 6 tbsp
- Light Brown Sugar - 6 tbsp, tightly packed
- Baking Soda - 1/2 tsp
- Salt - 1/4 tsp
- Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips - 3/4 Cups
- Butter - 1/2 Cup/1 stick
- Eggs - 1, large at room temperature
- Vanilla Extract - 3/4 tsp
Preheat oven to 375F when you are ready to bake the cookies.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda and salt. Keep aside.
In another bowl, using an electric mixer cream together the butter and sugars until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract and till nicely incorporated.
Add the flour mix little by little and little, scraping as and when required. Halfway through throw in the chocolate chips beat till everything comes together.
Chill the cookie dough for at least 1 hour.
Scoop out dollops of cookie dough using a mini ice-cream scoop (or 2 tablespoons) on cookie sheets lined with . Be sure to space out the scoops at least 2 inches apart as these will expand on baking.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes till the cookies turn golden brown around the edges.
Store in an airtight container - these should stay fresh for 4 days.
Needless to say that my little man LOVED it! I used it as a bribe... err... incentive to make eat or drink things which he usually doesn't without a fight!
Recipe Update (22nd July 2014): I added half a cup of chocolate chips and half a cup of mini M&Ms to the dough instead of 3/4th cup of chocolate chips. You can switch out the chocolate chips with M&Ms entirely if you want.
